Pocket Princesses

Wednesday, February 29, 2012 | No Replies

Illustrator AMY MEBBERSON draws everything from My Little Pony characters to Wonder Woman. But her “Pocket Princess” doodles are my favorites. It’s like if the Disney Princesses were Bratz dolls, but not trashy. Is that an oxymoron? Anyway, if you like Amy’s work you can TUMBL with her or follow her on TWITTER.

ABCinema

This is quite possibly one of the coolest animation projects I’ve ever seen. ABCINEMA features quick animations depicting a famous movie for each letter of the alphabet. I’ve watched it three times and still can’t name every movie – though I think I keep missing a few letters because they go by so quickly. It’s very cool how animator EVAN SEITZ moves from one letter to the other and also incorporates the letters themselves.

The Muppets love Google+

The Muppets plus Queen plus David Bowie plus Google+. I still don’t use Google+ as I already spend too much of my life on Facebook and Twitter. But if I got to participate in a Goole Hangout with the Muppets? I would probably switch full-time.

Disney Animation, A Love Story

I’m not really ashamed by the amount of Disney-related content I post because my childhood was the height of Disney’s animated success. So without further ado, a five-minute mash-up depicting “The Wonders of Disney Animation”.

1 Scene, 9 Directors

Friday, February 10, 2012 | No Replies

Writer and filmmaker WALTER WOODS made this short film with a few friends. One scene, interpreted nine different ways. J.J. Abrams, Quentin Tarantino, and George Lucas are just a few examples of directors whose styles were emulated in the video. A very fun exploration!

from enchantment to down

The stunning yet disturbing series below is “FROM ENCHANTMENT TO DOWN” by French photographer THOMAS CZARNECKI. The collection depicts Disney-stylized fairy tale heroines in dark and twisted scenes. Despite the haunting vibe, the images are so intriguing it’s difficult to stop looking at them. Click through to view the photos in their original sizes plus detailed close-ups of each shot.

I listen to almost every podcast on the NERDIST network. And when RIKI LINDHOME interviewed Joss Whedon on MAKING IT, I transcribed the podcast in my free time as a favor to my good friend MEGAN. Click the image to download a PDF of the transcription, and enjoy. Happy early birthday, Megan – sorry it took me so long!

Superbowl XLVI Ad Recap

Monday, February 6, 2012 | No Replies

Ten of my favorite commercials from last night’s Super Bowl, in no particular order. If I had to pick one favorite, I’d probably say the extended version of “Matthew Broderick’s Day Off” for Honda, just because the references to Ferris Bueller were spot on.

1. “Matthew’s Day Off” for Honda CR-V

Welcome to the Gridiron League

In his own words, designer WES KULL “likes to watch football but wishes that some of the NFL logos were more Budweiser and less Bud Light.” A fitting intro to his world of idealized NFL insignias and logos, THE GRIDIRON LEAGUE.
